It was 93 yesterday and 60 and raining today!

This morning we went to the Toy Factory in Corvallis for story time. The little guy didn't have any desire to sit still and listen to the book, preferring to go flirt with the little girls. After story time we stayed and played in their playroom. Wyatt was having a blast until he fell and cut his lip. It was his first injury involving blood, but I stayed calm and we made it through okay.

I wanted to share a couple cute new things Wyatt has been doing. He really seems to be understanding what we say to him lately and it's fun to give him directives and see what you get haha. When you tell him it's "tubby time" he heads in to get his towel and then to the tub. A few times I've told him it's "night night time" and he'll start walking to his bedroom. Or if I ask him if he's "hungry" he'll often head to the kitchen. He gets really excited when his daddy gets home from work or comes down for a quick visit. Usually he squeals "da da!" He also started raising his arms about his head after watching a play group dvd we have, so now when we say "touch down!" he puts his arms up. He's also become fascinated with trucks and loves the 'truck' book Grandpa Dave and Grandma Krissen got him. I just bought him a couple 'hot wheels' cars today and he was quite the happy camper on the way home.

I think Wyatt might be transitioning to 1 nap a day now. He is able to go longer periods of time without meltdowns and is taking 1 longer nap in the middle of the day. I wasn't happy about loosing that 2nd nap at first, but 1 longer nap does allow you to get more stuff done. All in all, I'm happy if the little guy is and he has been throwing less tantrums this week. I guess the concept 'ignoring bad behavior' does work!

out sick

It's been a rough last 4 days or so.. I came down with the stomach flu Thursday early morning and although I feel pretty good, I am still battling bouts of nausea here and there. My parents left Wednesday and my mom came down with the same thing on Friday. Audra and Mikey were sick the weekend before. We are just hoping that Wyatt doesn't get it- I'm not sure if I'm prepared to see my little guy sick like that.

So pretty much life has been at a stand still this week for us. Will has been doing 'everything' while I recuperate. He took great care of me and Wyatt, I am very appreciative at what a great hubby I have. Today we did get out and go to the park for a little bit. Took both dogs and Wyatt's tricycle. Wyatt preferred to walk though (in every bumpy, dirty spot he could find). I made tacos for dinner tonight and although it sounded great at the time, it may not have been the best choice for my sensitive tummy. Oh well.. Wyatt is in bed and its time to relax.

Portland etc

We've had a nice and busy week.. went to the park Thursday. My parents drove, so I was able to take Wyatt AND Tasha. Audra and Mikey ended up meeting us at the playground for awhile and then we took a nice long walk along the river. Tasha got to run free and was so well behaved. I was proud of her, but felt guilty that she doesn't get to go out more often.

Friday was our big outing with my parents. We left for Portland at about 11am, and went to the downtown area in search of Voodoo donuts (which I've seen featured on the Travel Channel a couple times. We ended up eating lunch first though because the line was down the street. So after lunch we decided to stand in line for these highly recommended donuts. Will and I both got one with chocolate, peanut butter and oreos on top. YUM. My mom apparently has a little donut addiction herself and got a dozen. After we got our donuts we wandered around downtown a bit and checked out China town and the Pearl district. It was interesting checking out the big city, but I realized its rather scary walking around a big city (not knowing what areas you shouldn't be in) with a child. I imagine that there are wonderful areas of Portland, but it wasn't until we got to the zoo that I could relax and not feel like I didn't have to look over my shoulder. Anyways the zoo was awesome. So lush and beautiful. Many of the animals were sleeping so it wasn't overly exciting for Wyatt, but he loved people watching and the big fish in the ginormous 'fish tank' seemed to really excite him. After a few hours at the zoo we meandered over to the Joan Baez concert. Wyatt was pretty worn out by now, but he did eventually fall asleep in his stroller after he did some dancing, clapping and running around. He got a couple compliments on the highlights in his hair haha. We got home at about 11pm (just about a 1 hour and 45 minute drive home).

So it's Saturday and we are so exhausted that we blew off our swimming lessons this a.m. Gonna go rest now while the little guy is napping...

Today I went to the Dermatologist to get some moles etc. checked out. Everything looks good so even though I'm sure it cost an arm and a leg, I'm relieved. Melanoma is a very bad word in our family and I really wish I had spent less time in tanning beds and in the sun, in my 20's. Anyways it sure feels nice to be deemed 'healthy.' I also went to the dentist Monday and all looks great. Guess it's my lucky week with doctors.. Tonight Audra and fam. came over and my mom made tacos. It was de-lish!

Wyatt has really become a little toddler almost overnight it seems. He says "No" and "all done" and even shakes/nods his head (sometimes his whole body) to tell you 'yes' or 'no.' I think he says "yeah" and other various things that we aren't positive about. Just the other day he was going to throw a toy off the front deck. I told him "no" and he stopped and shook his head 'no.' A few minutes later he went back to the deck about to throw a toy- this time he stood there, shook his head 'no' and walked away. I cracked up.

We are in the process of transitioning from formula to milk and from a bottle to a sippy cup. Since I cut out his 4pm bottle, he is actually eating more and drinking from his sippy cup better at meal times. So I feel pretty positive about everything so far. I have a feeling I'm going to miss those few minutes of cuddle time that I get with bottles- the very few times a day he is willing to sit still.

more birthday partying

Here are some pictures of Mikey's 3rd birthday party at the local park. It was really nice to be a guest at a party and be able to relax after last weekend :)Mikey was so adorable and polite. He told everyone "thank you!" after we sang him "Happy Birthday" and even let his friend help him open his presents.

Saturday we picked up my parents at Audra's house and took them to Wyatt's swim lessons. Wyatt was a bit testier than usual in the water and seemed pretty distractable at times (preferring to smile or wave at us on the sidelines or interested in strangers). We noticed he was the only kid more interested in what was going on outside the pool than inside.

Today we're just hanging out around the house, enjoying the cooler weather and gonna get some house stuff taken care of. My parents are babysitting Mikey today and then are going to come over for Philly cheese steak sandwiches tonight.

1 year stats

Today we went to Wyatt's 1 year well baby check up. He is off the charts in height and 50-75% in weight. His head circumference is 25-50%. All in all, we have a healthy toddler. He got all of his immunizations and so far is doing well. He is a little less moody and clingy today so I'm assuming he is re-adjusting back to life after vacation.

I really should take a picture of our toy infested house... He is really enjoying all of his new toys however. My parents are on their way up from Fresno as I write with the 2nd half of his birthday toys... so there will be even more.

I started the 4th book of the Twilight series last night and am thoroughly enjoying it. I am thrilled that our heat wave is starting to pass and am looking forward to going to the Portland Zoo in a couple weeks.

Well I better go and take the bottle of Tylenol and my Costco card away from Wyatt... hmmmm

I've neglected you sweet blog

We've had a busy last couple weeks.. Just got home from a nice vacation to CA where we celebrated Wyatt's first birthday. It only got to about 100 degrees that day so although it was still hot, it was nothing compared to 112 the weekend before. Wyatt got a ton of wonderful presents and really enjoyed his birthday cake it seemed. It was a lot of fun visiting with family and friends even though it never feels like enough time with everybody. He was a good sport about it all but seems to have developed some stranger anxiety this weekend. I was hoping we had escaped that but it doesn't appear so. In fact, once we returned home we found that he is now throwing temper tantrums; Mainly when he decides he doesn't want to walk and wants to be held or when he is put in his high chair to eat. So it would appear as if we brought the CA heat home with us. It has been over 100 degrees for the last couple of days without a respite in sight. Tomorrow we have his 1 year well baby check up so I am excited to see how much he has grown. We are in the process of transitioning him from formula to milk and from the bottle to the sippy cup. He is still sleeping through the night and nappy 2X a day. Well I better go, because 'someone' isn't falling asleep for his nap like he's supposed too and needs some help...

ramble on

It's Wednesday and we will be vacationing to Fresno to celebrate Wyatt's 1st birthday very shortly. I find it ironic that the place we moved away from is the same place that we now 'vacation' to- and in July no less. I hear its around 105 degrees there today. Of course our family and friends all still live in CA so theres no getting around it. I am actually very excited to 'go home' this time. Will is going to be off work and we'll get to see everyone we've been missing. My sister has told me more than once that Fresno is not my home anymore, but until we settle in our own home here, I think Fresno still feels kinda like 'home.' (cuz it certainly is no place to vacation to!)

Anyways- today Audra and Mikey met us along with my new friend Sara and her two girls at the water park in Corvallis. We took a picnic lunch and even though it was a bit crowded, it was a perfect day to be out in the sun and water and we had a blast.

On Sunday, we went to Eugene and hit Costco and Fred Meyer but got caught in the most amazing summer rain/thunder storm. SO much rain and loud thunder. Apparently the rainfall more than doubled the record set previously. Too bad we were in flip flops and shorts haha.

So Wyatt has been walking really well. He still needs to use the couch or wall etc. to stand up, however I did catch him just tonight going into a standing position from his knees. He woke up from a nap the other day speaking a new language. It's rather funny/bizarre and very guttural. I'm not really sure what its about, but am going to assume that he is NOT possessed like his father suggested, but that he's going to start saying more words or something soon. He's been into taking things out of bags/bins and putting them back in (which is nice and keeps him occupied for a few minutes here and there).

Well that's enough rambling outta me for now..

to get you up to date..

It was a quiet week for us.. Because Wyatt still had a snotty nose, we didn't go to our usual play dates earlier in the week. We hung out at home most of the week and enjoyed getting back on a good nap schedule. On Friday, we did go to story time and then to the play area afterwards. It was our first time playing in the play area and Wyatt had a blast. There were so many cool toys and activity centers to play with. He especially enjoyed one of the train sets. Luckily the tracks were glued down or he would have made a huge mess I'm sure. Oh yeah- we also made a new friend who recently moved here from Australia. After we finished up at the Toy Factory I put Wyatt in the Ergo (carrier) and we walked across the street to a Vietnamese sandwich shop and got a sandwich. SO yummy. We hit Kmart for some odds and ends and then drove home. Later Friday evening, I went out to dinner to Ruby Tuesdays for "mom's night out," with a group of moms I 'met' on an online Parent's network. We had a lot of fun and ended up going to see the movie, The Proposal after dinner.

Today (Saturday) we had our weekly swim lesson with Wyatt. He seemed to really enjoy himself today and could have stayed in the water much longer I think. We were planning on going to the water park after his lesson, however it was cool and overcast today so we got Taco Bell and went to the Blueberry Festival. We picked blueberries and enjoyed some music and checking out what the local vendors were selling.

Wyatt got his first birthday present yesterday... Grandma Pat and Papa sent him this play structure (shown above).. He was slow to warm up to it at first however today he showed much more interest, even climbing through one of the holes. He will surely have lots of fun with this in the days to come!
